Marble Foyer Floor in East Sacramento Tudor Revival
About This Project
This East Sacramento Tudor revival home has a formal entry foyer with a decorative fireplace surround and high ceilings. The floor received polished gray marble porcelain tile with a white marble border inlay, which was designed to frame the center of the space without competing with the existing architectural detail.
The home has a raised wood foundation. We installed a Schluter Ditra decoupling membrane over the existing plank subfloor before setting any tile. The membrane accommodates the slight seasonal movement in a pier-and-beam structure without transmitting stress to the tile layer above.
The border inlay required cutting both the gray field tile and the white border tile to meet precisely at mitered corners. We used a wet saw with a diamond blade and verified each corner cut before setting.
