Minimalist Freestanding Tub Bathroom in Oak Park

Minimalist bathroom with freestanding soaking tub, beige large-format wall tile, floating vanity, and glass shower partition in Oak Park home

About This Project

This Oak Park bathroom renovation used beige large-format tile on three walls, with a glass shower partition separating the shower zone from the freestanding tub area. The tile continues across both zones at the same height, which makes the room read as larger than it is.

The freestanding tub sits on a tiled floor. The floor tile runs under the tub, so the tub can be repositioned without leaving an untiled patch. We set the floor tile before the tub was placed and left the tub connection points open for the plumber.

The shower zone received a full liquid waterproofing membrane before tile. The wall tile in the non-wet zone was set directly on cement board without membrane, which is appropriate for that application.
