Dark Concrete Tile Bathroom in Oak Park

Bathroom with dark gray large-format concrete-look tile, round black-framed mirror, and wood-top floating vanity in Oak Park bungalow

About This Project

This full bathroom remodel in an Oak Park bungalow used dark gray concrete-look porcelain tile on all four walls and the floor. The homeowners were living in the house during the project, so we completed the bathroom in a single continuous push — demo through final seal — over four days to minimize the time without a functioning bathroom.

The concrete-look tile has a matte surface with slight texture variation between tiles, which reads as more interesting than a uniform surface. We arranged tiles before setting to distribute the texture variation evenly rather than clustering similar-looking tiles together.

The floating vanity with bamboo top was installed by the homeowner after tile completion. We tiled behind the vanity location to the wall, so if the vanity is ever replaced, the wall behind it is fully finished.
